Golf Performance Physical Therapy in Charlotte & Lake Norman, NC
If your backswing feels shorter than it used to, if your low back or shoulder aches after 18 holes, or if you've plateaued on distance despite working with a swing coach, the limiting factor may not be your swing — it may be your body's mobility.
At Congruency Therapy & Wellness, our Golf Performance program is built around one core idea: a powerful, pain-free swing starts with a body that can actually move the way golf demands.
Who this is for
This program is designed for golfers of all levels — from weekend players across Myers Park, Eastover, Cotswold, and SouthPark to competitive amateurs throughout Lake Norman and Cornelius — who are dealing with any of the following:
A backswing or follow-through that feels physically restricted, not just mechanically off
Recurring low back, hip, shoulder, or neck discomfort during or after play
A noticeable decline in distance or rotational power over recent seasons
A desire to build a more resilient, mobile body to support long-term play
What we address
Our approach targets the physical restrictions most commonly linked to lost distance, inconsistent ball striking, and golf-related pain:
limited thoracic spine rotation
restricted hip internal and external rotation
reduced shoulder and scapular mobility
compensation patterns that develop when these areas stop moving well.
Rather than treating an isolated ache, we look at how mobility (or the lack of it) throughout the entire kinetic chain is shaping your swing
What an Appointment Is Like
Your first visit includes a full-body movement assessment focused on the mobility patterns most relevant to your swing. We'll also talk through your swing history, any pain patterns, and what you're hoping to improve — more distance, more consistency, or simply playing without discomfort.
From there, treatment centers on hands-on manual therapy to restore mobility in the specific areas holding your swing back, paired with targeted exercises to help your body maintain and build on those gains between visits.
Initial evaluation: 60 minutes
Follow-up visits: 60 minutes
Typical course of care: individualized based on assessment findings and your goals — outlined clearly at your first visit

FAQs
-
Often, yes — indirectly. We don't coach swing mechanics, but when a restricted hip or thoracic spine is limiting your turn, restoring that mobility frequently allows golfers to generate more rotational power on their own, once their body can actually access the position their swing requires.
-
Every appointment — your initial evaluation and all follow-up visits — is a full 60 minutes, giving us the time for real, hands-on work rather than a rushed check-in.
-
Comfortable clothing that allows movement and breathing assessment. Preferably limit baggy clothing so assist in our ability to assess your posture/movement.
-
This is common. When the mid-back and hips don't rotate enough, the low back often compensates by rotating more than it's designed to, which can create pain even if your swing looks reasonably sound to the eye.
-
North Carolina is a full direct access state with no restrictions. This means you do not need a referral for physical therapy unless your insurance specifically requires one for reimbursement purposes.
-
We are an out of network provider for physical therapy services. We have adopted this model specifically because it gives us more time to assess and treat your specific problem without seeing multiple clients at one time.
-
We have two locations serving the greater Charlotte area — Midtown Charlotte and Lake Norman — making it convenient for clients from Myers Park, Eastover, Cotswold, and SouthPark, as well as Cornelius, Davidson, Huntersville, and Mooresville.
