Knee Pain Physical Therapy in Charlotte & Lake Norman, NC
Knee pain can interfere with far more than exercise.
It can make stairs frustrating, change the way you walk, limit your workouts, shorten your time on the golf course, or make you think twice before joining an activity you normally enjoy.
At Congruency Therapy & Wellness, we do not begin with the assumption that every painful knee needs the same treatment.
We start by understanding your knee, your movement, and what you want to get back to doing.
Who Is Knee Pain Physical Therapy For
Our approach may be a good fit if knee pain is limiting:
Walking or hiking
Stairs
Squatting or kneeling
Running
Strength training
Golf
Tennis or pickleball
Cycling
Getting up and down from chairs
Work or household activities
Your confidence in using the affected leg
We work with active adults, athletes, golfers, busy professionals, and aging adults who want to remain active.
You do not need to be an athlete to benefit from this approach. Your goal may be running a race, but it could just as easily be getting through a full day without thinking about your knee.

The Knee Pain Process
We Look Beyond the Painful Area
Your knee functions as part of a larger movement system.
During your evaluation, your physical therapist may examine the mobility and control of your hip, ankle, foot, pelvis, and trunk in addition to assessing the knee itself.
We want to know not only where you hurt, but also why a particular activity is difficult for your body right now.
For example, knee pain during a squat could involve knee mobility, ankle mobility, hip control, strength, coordination, load tolerance—or some combination of these factors.
Treatment should reflect what we find rather than following a generic knee protocol.
One-on-One Care
Your appointments at Congruency are intentionally one-on-one with your physical therapist.
This gives your therapist time to assess changes, perform hands-on treatment when appropriate, progress your exercises, and continually connect treatment back to your goals.
Your plan evolves as you do.
Hands-On Treatment and Movement Work Together
Depending on your evaluation, treatment may include hands-on manual therapy to address mobility or soft tissue restrictions, followed by exercise designed to help your body use that new mobility.
Rather than viewing manual therapy and exercise as competing approaches, we often use them together.
Improved motion becomes more meaningful when your body can control and use it.
We Prepare You for Your Actual Life
A knee that feels good on a treatment table still needs to work when you leave the clinic.
As your symptoms improve, rehabilitation may progress toward the activities that matter to you: stairs, loaded squats, running, hiking, golf, tennis, pickleball, or simply walking comfortably through your day.
The endpoint is not just decreased pain.
It is greater capacity and confidence.

They can contribute. Because the knee sits between the hip and ankle, restrictions or changes in strength and movement elsewhere in the leg can alter how forces are managed at the knee. A PT evaluation helps determine whether those factors are relevant to your symptoms.
-
Not necessarily. Some activities may need to be temporarily modified, but appropriately dosed movement and progressive exercise are important components of rehabilitation for many musculoskeletal knee conditions. The goal is often to find what your knee can tolerate and gradually increase its capacity.
-
Many musculoskeletal knee problems can be managed conservatively with physical therapy, depending on the diagnosis and individual presentation. An evaluation can help determine whether rehabilitation is appropriate or whether additional medical assessment is warranted.
